Commendations:

"Few things in photography, especially black and white photography, are as beautiful as a perfectly seen, carefully composed image printed to its full potential by a master darkroom printer. Joe Muir is such a master. Rarely have I seen such attention paid to bringing out every subtlety in a black and white negative; such attention paid to maintaining detail in the print's shadows. Joe's stunning silver prints have more than a broad tonal range. They have punch. They have life." (2005)

"Joe Muir has done all my printing for exhibits and publications over the past seven years. He is, simply, as good as they come." (2005)

“The Institute for New Hampshire Studies at Plymouth State University employed Black and White Image to digitally restore a collection of photographs taken in the Arctic in 1886. In addition to saving them on discs, Joe Muir accomplished what we deemed as miracles in the restoration process. A sampling of the collection is now on display in an exhibit,”Images of Arctic Peoples”. The reaction of viewers to the quality of the prints and enlargements has been more than simply favorable; one viewer was overheard to remark, ‘Awesome!' What really pleased me was the fact that Joe was as struck by imagery in the photos as we were, and expressed it in the painstaking procedures necessary to retrieving the original quality, seemingly lost through time and lack of care.”(2005)
